MUSIC EXECUTIVE-MANAGER OF THE POLICE-STING-ANDERSONPONTY BAND
One of the music
industry's most influential figures, Miles Copeland's career in management
stretches back 44 years to 1969 in London where he represented progressive rock
bands such as Wishbone Ash, Al Stewart, Climax Blues Band, Renaissance, Curved
Air, and Caravan until he jumped ship, landed in the turbulent ocean of punk,
and worked with the Sex Pistols, the Clash, Blondie, and many many more. In
1978, he became manager of his Brother Stewart's band, The Police and
shepherded them to become one of the biggest bands of the 1980s.
The success of
The Police and the novel methods used to break them enabled Miles to found
I.R.S. Records. In the next few years, the company had hits with The Buzzcocks,
The English Beat, The Cramps, Fine Young Cannibals, Wall of Voodoo, Timbuk 3,
R.E.M. and a number one album with the all-girl group, The Go-Gos. He continued
to manage Sting (solo) through seven blockbuster albums and introduced Sting to
Algerian singer, Cheb Mami. Their collaboration bloomed with "Desert
Rose" whose worldwide success was attributed to Miles' innovative
corporate deal with Jaguar. In all, Miles can rightfully claim to have been
involved in the sale of over 150 million albums. Miles currently owns and
operates CIA - Copeland International Arts.

RAY SHASHO SHOW

Our Very Special Guest Today is Ewan Currie the lead singer and guitarist for Canadian rock band
sensations
‘The Sheepdogs.’
Trends come and go, styles fall in and out of
fashion, but The Sheepdogs remain steadfast in their commitment to rock n’ roll
excellence. Since their inception, the band has always sought to play the kind
of music they themselves love: “Pure, simple, good-time music,” as
singer/guitarist Ewan Currie puts it. It’s no surprise, then, that the band’s latest
album,
Future Nostalgia, is firmly rooted in the rock
tradition that listeners have come to expect from the boys.
The idea was simple: find a nice, quiet, secluded
place and make a record packed with all the hot guitar licks and sing-along
choruses they could muster. So the band holed up in a rented house in the remote,
idyllic setting of Stony Lake, Ontario, and set about creating a studio where
they could work all hours of the day. “We wanted to cut out all the noise and
get back to a place where we could just fully immerse ourselves in music,” says
Currie, who took on production duties for the album. “We worked hard, but we
also made sure to keep it loose and have ourselves a good time.”
Future
Nostalgia is the middle ground between the
JUNO-winning, platinum-certified Learn & Burn, which spawned the rock radio
staple “I Don’t Know,” and its equally successful follow-up, 2012’s The
Sheepdogs, featuring the instantly-recognizable, Gold-certified singles
“Feeling Good” and “The Way It Is.”
The former was recorded by Currie and the band in
their hometown of Saskatoon before they were propelled to fame as the first
unsigned band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone, pressure free and at their
own pace. Its follow-up, however, recorded in Nashville with producer and Black
Keys drummer Patrick Carney, was a much more formal and rigid studio
experience. This time, the band aimed to combine the successes and lessons
learned from these opposite ends of the recording spectrum.
Future
Nostalgia builds upon The Sheepdogs’
foundation of feel-good vocal harmonizing and nasty guitar jamming. Now, The
Sheepdogs are eager to embark on the next leg of their journey, which will
involve many miles logged and stages played. “I’m excited for people to hear
the album, because it’s a labour of love,” Currie says proudly. “Now, it’s just
about getting it out there and getting people into it.”
From their cramped Saskatchewan jam space to gold
and platinum records and shows with rock icons, The Sheepdogs haven’t strayed
from their goal of sharing pure, passionate rock n’ roll with anyone who’ll listen
– and Future Nostalgia is packed with it.
Formed in Saskatoon in 2006, The Sheepdogs have
received widespread acclaim for their bold and beautiful take on classic guitar
rock, evinced on three self-funded, independently released albums. The
band’s hard work, determination and impressive chops have earned them a fervent
fan following, leading to the accumulation of various achievements and awards
including four JUNO awards, seven JUNO nominations, Gold certification
for The Sheepdogs and Platinum certification for Learnand
Burn. The band’s 2012 self-titled LP debuted at #1 on
the Top 200 SoundScan Chart, and garnered three #1 singles at Rock Radio
including Gold certified tracks “Feeling Good” and “The Way It Is”. As
impassioned on stage as they are on record, The Sheepdogs have spent much of
their musical lifetime on the road playing innumerable headline shows and
festival appearances worldwide.
It’s my great pleasure to welcome to the show today
lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for The Sheepdogs … EWAN CURRIE.

Our
Very Special Guest today is legendary bass player … Kenny Aaronson.
Kenny Aaronson was born, bread and buttered in
Brooklyn, New York. He started playing drums at the age of eleven, following in
his older brother's footsteps. Kenny switched to electric bass at the age 14
after becoming enamored by the low end of the bass on Motown records that he
would hear on the jukeboxes in local pizza joints. To this day, he is still a
huge James Jamerson fanatic. As a teenager, he played bass for Brooklyn based
hard rock band Dust, which included Marc Bell (a.k.a. Marky Ramone), and released
two albums in 1971 and '72 on the Kama Sutra label. In 1973, Aaronson
joined the New York band Stories, who's single,"Brother Louie",
reached #1 on the Billboard, Cashbox and Record World charts.
Kenny Aaronson went on to become a recognized world-class rock and roll bassist
with his extensive touring and recording with a variety of artists including
Bob Dylan, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Billy Squier, Foghat, Sammy Hagar, Neil
Schon, Kenny Aaronson, Michael Shrieve,Brian Setzer, Mick Taylor, Dave Edmunds, Robert Gordon, Graham Parker, Hall and
Oates, Edgar Winter, Leslie West Band, Rick Derringer and many more.
In 1988 Kenny was named Bassist of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine. Aaronson
was also bassist in the house band for the MTV Guitar Greats Show where along
with Dave Edmunds, Chuck Leavell and Michael Shrieve, he had the opportunity to
back up artists as diverse as Steve Cropper, Brian Setzer, Lita Ford, Tony
Iommi and Dave Gilmore. A few of Kenny's most memorable moments in his career
were auditioning for the Rolling Stones, recording with George Harrison and
opening for Led Zeppelin.
Kenny Aaronson supports singer song writer John Eddie. In the summer of
2011 he toured with the New York Dolls supporting Motley Crue and Poison
in the US along with solo Dolls dates in Australia. In the fall, they
toured the U.K. supporting Alice Cooper. Kenny has recently supported
Corky Laing, Robert Gordon and Philadelphia's "In The
Pocket".
Most recently Kenny is a member of the legendary Yardbirds
and Radio Exile who recently released their debut CD and official video
entitled “Soulfire.”
It’s my great pleasure to welcome
prodigious bassist Kenny Aaronson to The Ray Shasho Show …
Our Very Special Guest Today is Marky Ramone the drummer for the legendary punk rock band the Ramones.
Marky Ramone is best known for the 15 years he spent
drumming for the Ramones. Prior to joining the Ramones, Marky played with an
array of influential musicians dating back to his high school years when he was
a member of the Brooklyn based hard rock band, Dust. Recording two albums with
his friends, Richie Wise (guitar and vocals) and Kenny Aaronson (bass) for Neil
Bogart’s Karma Sutra/Buddha label.
In 1976, Marky was introduced to Richard Hell. Along
with Bob Quine and Ivan Julian, they formed Richard Hell & the Voidoids.
The Voidoids released their groundbreaking debut album in 1977 on Sire Records,
entitled “Blank Generation”. Shortly after the Voidoids historic U.K. tour with
The Clash, Marky found himself at the bar at CBGB with Dee Dee Ramone. Dee Dee
asked him if he would be interested in joining The Ramones. The spring of 1978,
Marky joined the Ramones. In a matter of weeks he was in the studio recording
his first album with The Ramones entitled, “Road to Ruin”, which features one
of the biggest Ramones songs “I Wanna Be Sedated”. The following year the
Ramones filmed the cult classic “Rock 'n' Roll High School”. Later that year,
they joined forces with producer legend, Phil Spector to record “End Of The
Century”.
After several tours and two more studio albums,
Marky was asked to leave the band in 1983, only to rejoin his band mates in
1987 until they decided to call it quits in 1996. His tenure with the Ramones
spanned a total of 15 years. Performing over 1700 shows and more than 15
releases, including songwriting credits on both Mondo Bizarro and Adios Amigos,
the bands farewell release.
In 2000,
Marky reunited with long time friend Joey Ramone for Joey’s solo effort “Don't
Worry About Me”. In 2001, Marky along with his former band mates (Johnny, Dee
Dee and Tommy), were inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. That same
year, U2’s Bono presented the Ramones with the MTV’s Lifetime Achievement
Award. The DVD release, “Raw”, a compilation of mostly home videos filmed
predominantly by Marky was release in 2004 and entered the Billboard video
chart at number 5. Certified gold in three countries and currently the best
selling Ramones DVD release to date.
In the spring of 2009, Marky launched a capsule
collection clothing line with Hilfiger Denim. In 2010, Marky shared his recipe
for pasta sauce by introducing Marky Ramone’s Brooklyn’s Own Pasta Sauce. In
February 2010 The Ramones received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. It was
the first Grammy for the punk rock pioneers. In early 2010 Marky Ramones
Blitzkrieg with Michale Graves released their first single “When We Were
Angels” with former member of Sheer Terror, Mark Neuman, playing bass and
guitar. With no signs of slowing down, Marky Ramone continues to tour the world
with his band, Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg, featuring various lead vocalists
including Andrew W.K. and Michale Graves.
Marky is currently in his eighth year as a D.J. on
SiriusXM Satellite Radio hosting “Marky Ramone’s Punk Rock Blitzkrieg”.
Ramone is also a best-selling author who recently
released Punk Rock Blitzkrieg …My
Life As A Ramone – It’s the final word on the genius and mischief of The
Ramones told by the man who kept the beat and lived to tell about it.
