Expression of one’s raw and primal self should not be an empty pursuit, but rather be one filled with unbridled passion. Introspection sometimes takes place in the parts of oneself that are kept private and quiet, shadowed by social conditioning that offers the deceiving sense of safety and sanity.

The voice of Empty Trail is loud, bellowing deep within the soul of the three-piece Hard Rock band that calls Austin, Texas its home. And Empty Trail wants its voice heard.

Singer/guitarist Rick Lambert originally began the concept of the band as a personal project during his stint in Los Angeles. After recording his first EP, entitled Obscured, while roaming the City of Angels, He decided to relocate to Austin after recruiting drummer Rom Gov and bassist Shane Wallin in the fall of 2016.

“I wanted something that sounded grungy but with a modern sonic appeal,” explains Lambert. “Bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains with an added twist definitely came to mind.”

Empty Trail received an overwhelmingly positive response after taking their act on the road, especially in their home state of Texas. Their single, “My World,” exemplifies the full embodiment of what Empty Trail is meant to be. Recorded at Evil Snail Studios in 2017, “My World” proved to be a massive turning point. “It was essentially the sum of all the best parts of the band condensed in the greatest way possible,” says Lambert.

Empty Trail takes pride on building a network of fans that they consider family. The band spends much of its time engaging with followers through Instagram and Facebook, while fans from all over the world have shown their appreciation by creating international online fan pages, hand- made artwork, and even covers of their music.

Empty Trail has recently released three powerful singles …  a Marcy Playground cover entitled “Sex and Candy,” “World Split in two” and their brand-new single “I don’t want the truth.”

BOOK REVIEW

-By Literary Titan (5) STARS

The Rock Star Chronicles by Ray Shasho, is a splendid book written by a music enthusiast who has poured their heart and soul into it. It’s a story of a boy who loved rock music, and his obsessive passion of it earned himself the name Rock Raymond. He went to school but instead was schooled in all matters of music while his peers were buried chin-deep in coursework. He then became a radio DJ and has now compiled a book on all interviews he held with Rock gods who raided the airwaves back in the 70s and 80s. It’s a compilation of interviews with outstanding vocalists, legendary guitarists and crazy drummers in the rock music scene. Each interview gives a reader an in-depth view into their personal lives and the philosophies that guide their lives which all serve to humanize these great icons. For readers who are old enough to call themselves baby boomers this book will bring old memories back to life. Millennials, on the other hand, may think of this book as a literal work of the Carpool Karaoke show.

The Rock Star Chronicles is a book I didn’t know I was waiting for. To come across a book that will talk me into trying something new. One brave enough to incite me to venture into new frontiers. This book made me a believer- I am now a bona fide Rock and Roll music fan.

Ray Shasho masterfully gets the interviewees talking. He smartly coaxes answers from them with crafty questions designed to get a story rolling out of them. The artists talk about diverse issues ranging from music, politics, and their social engagements. Having been on the music seen all his life, Ray Shasho knows the buttons to press, how to get them comfortable about talking about their lives.

The book’s cover is befitting of its subject matter with the leather look offering a royal background to the golden letter print. It speaks to how high a level rock music holds in the pecking order- arguably, modern music as we know it has originated from blues and rock music.  The second noteworthy thing is the use of high-definition pictures to reference the musician being interviewed in every sub-chapter. This ensures that the book is for both original rock and roll lovers and aspiring new ones. Together is makes for a refreshing and consistently enjoyable read.

I recommend this book to rock music enthusiasts, aspiring musicians wondering what it takes and all readers curious to learn new things by going back in time.

Grammy Award winner Alan Parsons was born into a family with an impressive history in entertainment. His great-grandfather was the celebrated actor/manager Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree. His mother was an actress, professional folk singer and harpist and his father, Denys Parsons, an accomplished pianist, and flautist as well as the author of many books. The late Oliver Reed, film actor was a cousin. His uncle, David Tree was also a film and stage actor.

Parsons worked as assistant engineer on the last two albums by The Beatles and after he qualified as a fully-fledged recording engineer, he went on to work with Paul McCartney and The Hollies among many others. But it was his contribution as engineer on Pink Floyd’s classic The Dark Side Of The Moon that really got him world attention. That soon led to striking successes as a producer – notably with Pilot’s Magic, John Miles’ Highfly and Music and Steve Harley’s (Come Up And See Me) Make Me Smile. He also produced the hugely successful Year Of The Cat album with Al Stewart and two albums with American prog rock band Ambrosia.

In 1975 he met Eric Woolfson who not only became his manager but joined forces with Alan as a songwriting and performing partner for what became known as The Alan Parsons Project. The APP’s debut album, Tales Of Mystery And Imagination based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe paved the way for a signing to Clive Davis’ newly launched Arista label and a string of hit albums, namely I Robot (1977), Pyramid (1978), The Turn of a Friendly Card (1980), Eye in the Sky (1982), Ammonia Avenue (1984), Vulture Culture (1985), Stereotomy (1986) and Gaudi (1987).

Alan Parson’s most recent studio release is entitled 'From the New World' and features the classic sounds Parsons has become known for in his impressive career, with progressive, symphonic, and classic rock elements all touched upon on this stunning album. Guest appearances from the likes of renowned guitarist and singer Joe Bonamassa, Tommy Shaw of Styx, vocalist David Pack (Ambrosia), and vocalist James Durbin add wonderful atmosphere to the stunning performances by Alan and his incredible backing band.
